Next Space – a tribute to the Magic Systems studio
Magic Systems · Bratislava · 1997
A tribute to one of the first Slovak sci-fi adventure games – and to the people who dreamed it up, painted it and gave it a voice.
What is Next Space
53 worlds,
one courier
Frank, a space courier, falls into a wormhole and comes out in an alien galaxy. Little Estóz’s Bar, the PSAB greenhouses, two female androids, a spider’s nest – and a threat called G-HERN.
Next Space was released in 1997 by Magic Systems, a studio in Bratislava. Every location was painted by hand, the animations were rendered in 3D and the characters were voiced by Slovak actors. Almost thirty years later, we have rebuilt the game from scratch so that anyone can play it.

Story
Thirteen chapters among the stars

Little Estóz's Bar
Frank lands near an unknown station, walks into a bar and discovers that his translator is as confused as he is.

The PSAB Greenhouse
A crash in the greenhouse, a sword of foam and glass, acid from a flower and a little creature in his pocket. Nobody said it would be easy.

Teleport Planet: Water, Spider, Pump
Frank lands on a dump of wrecked teleporters and becomes the saviour of the water creatures. From their point of view, it is a fairly ordinary working day.

G-HERN's Base
An interrogation, a cell, the toilet as an escape route, a character swap and a barman in uniform. The longest chapter in the game, and one of the funniest.

Back in the game
We have rebuilt the game on a modern JavaScript engine. It runs right in your browser – with English subtitles over the original Slovak voices, and all 53 locations.
The English version of the game has English subtitles and on-screen text, with the original Slovak voices. Every “Play” link on this site opens the game in English.
